Robust Training and Roger Lynch

Roger Lynch is founder and chief executive of Robust Training, a company he formed to meet the high standard of training required for drivers, escorts and others working in the private hire industry.

His unique concept and design of two mobile training centres, the Robustraina® and the Activtraina, have attracted the attention of many in the transport industry and employment market. Lynch, also chief executive of industry leaders Ruskin Private Hire, recently earned the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year title at the Black Business Awards 2008.

Robust Training has been awarded a government contract from the LSC (Learning & Skills Council) to train more than 1,000 people a year in the passenger transport industry, and other contracts are being being finalised.

Lynch says: More

"We are also being asked to train the staff of various bus companies and private hire firms, as well as the self-employed, with new support from the government. The standards we adhere to are those set by Go-Skills, the Sector Skills Council for the transport industry. We are members of Go-Skills Plus but I should point out that they are not an accreditation body."

He also revealed that there are a staggering 500,000 Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV) drivers in the UK, many of whom have yet to achieve the standards required by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).

"Every new passenger vehicle driver will be required by law to train for 35 hours over a 5-year period to gain PCV qualifications. The law will extend to LGV and HGV Drivers by the last quarter of 2009, and to everyone in the industry by 2013."
